Learning a new country.
Sharing a clearer way.

For Mary C. Nwosu, the learning began almost as soon as she arrived at the airport.

There were unfamiliar systems to understand, reliable information to find and everyday questions to work through. Arriving in Canada while pregnant added another layer: preparing for parenthood while getting to know a new country.

One question led to the next.

Mary brought an IT background and a love of learning to that experience. She kept researching, asking questions and discovering community resources. Gradually, information and services that had once been difficult to find became useful parts of everyday life.

The experience left her with a question of her own: how could what she had learned make someone else’s beginning easier?

Useful knowledge should be easier to reach.

Now a mother of two, Mary sees YCG as a way to share learning beyond one household. A person may know they need help without knowing the name of a service, the questions to ask or whether it operates where they live.

That is why YCG starts with real needs: a place to live, a question about healthcare, support during pregnancy, a school or a community connection. It connects those needs with plain-language explanations, official sources and practical next steps.

A guide that keeps learning.

Mary’s experience informs the purpose of YCG. Each listed program still needs its own source check, eligibility information and local context. The aim is to help people feel more informed and confident as they make their own decisions.
